cerebral rhapsody

Welcome! I designed this blog to look like a document you open up in MS Word, to remember the days I typed long reports for school work. Time flies and I've left school and entered the work force for more than a year. Haven't been updating this blog regularly but if you dig up the archives you can find snippets of my life since 2006. I'm still keeping this blog so you can stay with me.

Ended ICT with a sweet note

My 5th in camp training was 10 days agony and 10 minutes pleasure when we went up the stage to receive this award. Reservist morale went up a little bit.

Another one bites the dust. Hamsters are terribly prone to infectious diseases, most probably came from their owners.

Cyrene is about 2 years old. I will miss his bear-like face, and long messy hair at his butt.

R.I.P.

Light lunch

Tasty chicken thigh in Teriyaki sauce. Juicy baked tomato.
Damage = $13.80 ++

Tap tap revenge is a nice game to play while waiting for food to be served. It's so addictive that we ignored the waiter who stood beside us waiting to serve us soups.

F1 excitement hits SG

Looks cute. But don't think it'd taste good.

Hope I will be able to catch some live action on the circuit next weekend.

Graduate lo!

Graduation marks the official end of student life and commencement of working life. The road ahead is long and tough, but I'm going to make it worthwhile.

First Week at Work

Today marks the fourth day of work. I still cannot get used to waking up at 6.30 in the mornings, being in an office environment and talking to colleagues who are old enough to be my aunties and uncles. And I am of course not used to having subordinates who are also as old as my aunties and uncles. This job looks something like that I can retire in, not that I have the intention to do so but it's environment is definitely not frightening at all, at least for my first week. So far, I've been happy with the job. Everyone is nice and very willing to answer my queries and help me get along in the company. But there's still so much more to find out.

Southern Ridges Walk

One day I was traveling on a bus along Alexandra Road when I caught sight of a overhead bridge that looked nothing that I've seen before. Leading to the bridge was a series of zig-zagging cat-walks that extends and disappears into the greenery. I thought, that must be one nice pedestrian crossing! Little did I know that it is actually part of a inter-park trail that spans over 9km across the southern parks of Singapore, and hence its name - The Southern Ridges. The bridge that I'm referring to is the Alexandra Arch. Yesterday afternoon, we walked the trail from one end to the other, starting from the Harborfront end.

Chemical, Tourism, Residences, Retire.

The bench is soaked with the warmth of the mid-day sun.

View of Telok Blangah residences and the city in the background.

Aggressive framing of residences and offices.

Tall and straight trees.

Henderson waves. The curvy wooden planks doubles as ergonomic back rests.

Henderson waves. The curvy wooden planks also doubles as a playground for extreme sport (No signs saying cannot run on it). I can't resist doing a 飞檐走壁.

Henderson waves is also the highest overhead bridge in Singapore.

Forest walk. This is one cool walkway. We saw many lovely looking trees.

Forest walk. Silhouette of the canopy of a large shady tree.

Picture taking ended at the Hortpark because the batteries died. The last one-third of our journey shall remained to be photograph on our next visit. We reached Kent Ridge park just in time to catch the sun set against the backdrop of the Pasir Panjang shipyard From there, we found our way down to South Buona Vista Road and by then we were dead hungry. We found the Teocheow duck stall that we last visited 2 years ago and had our dinner there.

I think Nparks is quite smart to develop this trail because it's actually just connecting three parks (Kent ridge, mount faber and telok blangah hill) with fanciful bridges and by doing so they created an entirely new experience for us. Overall, it's enjoyable because I've never been to those parks in my 24 years of life in Singapore. I've not been to Kent Ridge park even it is just right beside NUS and is a great spot for couples to hang out. Much of the joy came from being able to discover new sights of Singapore, just when I thought that I've ventured thoroughly throughout the whole of Singapore and there's nothing new left to explore.

I will definitely walk this trail again, next time bringing my SLR and hope to capture more interesting shots.

Graduation trip photos (Part V -Taipei)

Soft toy catching machine

Ximending has lots of arcades with machines like this. The soft toys are larger in variety and looked more attractive than those we see back home. Wx couldn't find her piggy soft toy in these machines.

猫空 gondola ride

This cable car only begun operation middle of 2007. It's cheap to take rides on it and very relaxing for all us except for one girl. It's obvious which girl it is from the picture.

Brewing tea on the hilltop

Xuejing demonstrating the art of tea brewing and we all pretend to be like real tea connoisseurs. The price was exorbitant though.. Ok nice hill-top view don't come cheap. We can see Taipei tallest building, the 101, from there.

猫空 cable car view

Our gondola on its way down back to the first station. Cable car rides aren't exciting but they're of novelty to us because we haven't been on cable car rides for ages.

Kiddy Amusement park

What are we adults doing in an amusement park meant for kids you may ask. That's because our cable car tickets include a free ride inside the amusement park and we want to make good use of it. We took the vertical drop ride you see in the background. It was considered the most intense ride in the park, lol.

杨明山 - 金包里步道

It's been my dream to see wild animals in their natural habitat. When I saw these wild cattles, I got very excited and shouted 'hey hey!' and shocked the rest walking infront of me.

杨明山 - 金包里步道

Tree trunks covered with bright green moss.

杨明山 - 金包里步道

Bamboo!

娟丝瀑布

A mini waterfall that we spotted along the trail.

杨明山 - 金包里步道

The trail is occasionally flanked by bamboo trees.

杨明山 - 7-11

This 7-11 store came as a savior to us as we were all dead hungry after completing the trail. I really like the ice coffee sold in Taiwan 7-11 stores, can't get them back home.
